Je m’appelle Pierre et je suis un triathlète amateur spécialisé dans les longues distances.
Sportif depuis tout petit, j’ai pratiqué le foot et le tennis jusqu’en 2009. Pour des raisons professionnelles, j’ai dû abandonner ces sports et je me suis mis à la course à pied pour ensuite nager et rouler à vélo et ainsi en venir à la pratique du triathlon.
Depuis lors, ce sport a pris une place entière dans ma vie. En plus d'un travail à temps plein et de ma vie de famille, je m’entraîne 15 à 25 heures par semaine.
Mon sport consiste en l’enchainement de 3 disciplines : la natation, le vélo et la course à pied.
J’ai d’abord commencé par des petites distances mais je me suis vite rendu compte que j’étais fait pour les longues distances. Ainsi, en 2012, j’ai participé à mon premier Ironman à Frankfurt soit 3.8 km de natation en eau libre enchainés à 180 km de vélo et 42,2 km à pieds pour terminer (l'équivalent d'un marathon).
Depuis lors, en avril dernier, j’ai terminé mon 7e Ironman en Afrique du Sud (7x sous les 10h), à Port Elizabeth et décroché ma qualification pour les Championnats du monde de cette distance qui auront lieu à Hawaï le 8 octobre prochain.
Cette course est certainement la plus mythique au monde, là ou le triathlon est né, le rêve de tout triathlète.
Chaque année, environ 100.000 athlètes tentent d’obtenir cette qualification mais seulement 1.850, professionnels et amateurs, auront le droit et la chance d’être sur la ligne de départ à Kona.
Comme vous pouvez vous en douter, en tant que triathlète amateur, je dois tout financer moi-même. Absolument aucune aide ne m’est donnée même en étant athlète de haut niveau, raison pour laquelle je vous sollicite aujourd’hui afin de vous demander un petit coup de pouce.
En plus du coût moyen d'une saison qui s'élève à environs 6.000 euros, le budget pour me rendre à Hawai est énorme :
- droit d'inscription à la course 900 euros
- billet d'avion pour Hawaii/Kona 1.300 euros
- supplément bagages transport vélo 400 euros
- logement 1500 euros
- tenues de competition 300 euros

Aloha, I'm Pierre, Belgian long distance amateur triathlete. Since ever practicing sport (tennis and football), in 2009 I decided to try a new challenge and discovered the world of triathlon.
My sport is a sequence of 3 sports: swim, bike and run.
Smoothly I started with short distances on the first 2 years and quickly realized that I was born to compete on long distances.
In 2012 I finished my first full distance Ironman, 3.8km swim in open water, 180km riding and 42.2km run = marathon.
Since then, I finished my 7th Ironman In April 2016 in South Africa, Port Elizabeth and qualified for Ironman World Championships 2016 in Hawaii.
Hawaii Ironman World Championship long distance triathlon is definitely the dream of every triathlete, the place where triathlon was born.
Every year thousands of triathletes professionals or amateurs (age groupers) struggle get their slot to join the most mythic race of the year but only 1850 of them qualify to attend this event.
As you can imagine, for an amateur athlete, practicing a sport not really popular, the only way for me to rise funds to support my passion is to work hard in my job on the top of the 15-25hours training per week.
On the top of the cost of a season, around 6000 euros
The budget to attend this race in Hawaii is just huge:
- registration fee 900 euros
- air ticket 1.300 euros
-extra fee for bike transportation 400 euros
- housing 1500 euros
- sportswear/competition 300 euros
- plus coaching, equipment ...
