Belgium Mixed Ultimate Frisbee team
Ultimate is a team sport played with a Frisbee (or flying disc) by two teams with seven players on the field. A team scores a goal when one of their players catches the disc in the opposition team’s end-zone, having advanced from their own end of the field.
Created in the 60’s in the USA, Ultimate is a mixed, non-contact sport, with an emphasis on fair play and self-refereeing by the players. Ultimate has a unique philosophy among team sports. It is based on the tradition of each player taking responsibility for correctly applying the rules of the game.
While competitiveness is encouraged, it should never be to the detriment of the mutual respect of players and the pleasure of play. The sport is based on self-refereeing and fair play, without reducing competitiveness or physical engagement. This principle is respected on and off the field. For example, a fair play prize is awarded at each competition, and at the end of each game it is customary for teams to join together in a circle to discuss the game just played.
In August 2015, our sport was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
This summer, London will host the 2016 World Ultimate Championship. The WFDF 2016 World Ultimate & Guts Championships is the 14th edition of the world ultimate championships. The competition will take place in the University College London (UCL) Sports Ground in St Albans, training ground of soccer Premier League club Watford.
More than 2000 players (and as many volunteers) from 121 national teams based in more than 35 different countries will contribute to make this major event successful and memorable. The World Ultimate Championship will see five divisions crowning World champions:
Women – Open – Mixed - Open Masters - Women Masters
Belgium will be sending more than 80 players and coaches, in four of those divisions: Mixed, Open, Women and Open Masters.
In the Mixed division, there will be 31 teams participating:
Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Honk Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, USA and, of course... Belgium.
During the world championship there will be a livestream which can be followed at www.WUGC2016.com
Ended up 3rd in 2011 (European Championships) and 6th in 2015 (European Championships), Belgium has become a major actor on the European Ultimate scene. Now it is time to shine at Worlds. We aim at the top 10. It will be a difficult goal, but doable with a good preparation.
And we need you.
Indeed, Ultimate frisbee is still a young sport, and sponsors do not come and knock at the door to support the sport. The players have to bear all the costs. We estimated the costs of the World Championship at 1350€ per player, preparation included (a total of 31,500).
By supporting us with this crowdfunding campaign, it will help us to cover a part of the players' fees and their gear.
Support Belgium, support a sport that promotes gender mix, without referee, and where the fair play is at the centre of its philosophy !

Curriculum Vitae
Belgium has a strong history on the international Ultimate scene.
In 2011 in Maribor (Slovenia), Belgium came home with the bronze in the Mixed division, and the Spirit prize in the Open division.
In 2015 in Copenhagen (Denmark), Open made it to the 4th place, losing against France for the bronze medal. In the Women and Mixed division, both teams made it to the 6th place.
Also on the club scene, Belgium is present. The Mooncatchers (Brussels), ended at the 4th position at last European Clubs Championship, and 28th at last World Clubs Championship.
